As a New Jersey wedding videographer, you can probably guess what I am going to say. Although I would be hard pressed to say that you “need” a wedding videographer, after being a part of many New Jersey wedding days, I can say that I have yet to hear a couple regret it. Often times, videography can be considered a luxury. Something to add IF photos don’t eat up their entire budget.

Photography is incredibly important, and I am not suggesting video as a substitute. Trust me when I say, I believe in the value of wedding day photos. A Wedding Video Reminds You of your Vows

On your wedding day, you are going to make some big, bold, promises. I live to document these moments. Although a talented photographer can capture the emotions in a photo, only video can remind you of the words said. My favorite wedding day words are letters read aloud from your future spouse (read before first look photos or before the ceremony) and your ceremony vows. It doesn’t stop there though. A wedding video can also capture some of the more spontaneous moments – like a belly laugh or a quick moment between you and your wedding party.

You Will Rewatch the Video more Than You Expect

Your friends and family will too. Often, your best friends and family will scroll through your 600 wedding photos with you once or twice. When it comes to your wedding video, most of the couples I work with choose a package that gives them a video of the whole ceremony, in real time, and also gives them a highlight video that they can share with their family and friends on social media. Many couples choose to have me with them from getting ready in the morning to busting a move on the dance floor with their family and friends.

Wedding Videography can Capture your Guests Moments too

Unless you have a second photographer, there won’t be many photos of the guests. That’s okay, especially if you have a photo booth capturing their memories for you. A wedding is truly the one time that most everyone you love is in the same room, and you are going to want to remember them there with more than a signature on a guest book. When you hire a wedding videographer, they can capture intimate moments between you and your guests as well as your guests interacting among themselves. A wedding video can pick up on the excitement and buzz before your wedding ceremony starts. It can capture the roars of your guests as you erupt through the reception doors – your grand entrance as newlyweds (from your guests perspective).

It Can Make Friends & Family Feel Like They Were There

In 2020, this has been more important than ever. We have been so limited with who we can and can’t celebrate with. Although your loved ones will appreciate you sharing your wedding album with them, hiring a wedding videographer will really make them feel as though they were there. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for Zoom technology, especially in 2020. But setting up a table with a laptop can’t capture emotion the same way a professional wedding videographer can. Your friends and family want to celebrate your love with you. A video is an easy way to share your day with them!

One of my favorite moments? While Jeremia was getting ready, he mentioned how his suit jacket had their favorite song embroidered (it was supposed to be their first dance song, but 2020 had other plans). I suggested that I use the speaker I carry, for them to break into their first dance after the exchanged vows in the sand. It was pure magic.

If you are nervous about having your video taken on your wedding day, let me put your mind at ease.

Seriously, think of me like a friendly fly on the wall. Gone are the days where videography was awkward tripods, bulky equipment, and cheesy prompts. My style is photojournalistic, I like to document the day as it unfolds, not recreate it. I don’t want to create a “perfect” video, that looks nothing like your wedding day. That’s not what lights me up. Your wedding day is going to be incredible just the way it is, and that’s exactly what I want to capture in my work. I may add a few suggestions or make a joke here and there, but for the most part, I want you to forget I’m there. Your wedding day will never be about me.
