In search of a new sense of wonder and adventure, I enlisted into the U.S Navy at eighteen years old. But, after returning from my second nine-month deployment, I’d realized I hadn’t collected any photographs of the transformative moments, breathtaking views, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that shaped my perspective on the world. So, I bought my first camera and began meticulously documenting the exhilarating details of my life.

Over the next few years, my passion for photography continued to grow. I left the Navy and founded my own New Jersey-based photography studio, where I fell in love with the process of bringing my clients’ most unforgettable memories to life. I then met my now-wife, and we welcomed a beautiful son into the world—a deeply humbling experience that has been filled with infinitely more adventure than jumping out of helicopters and plunging into icy waters. I realized that my work didn’t need to be centered solely around capturing my clients’ biggest and boldest moments, because some of life’s most profound moments are also the most intimate and soulful ones.

While I’ve retain the photojournalistic instincts that drive me to seek out spontaneous moments and authentic expressions of love, adventure, and family, I now focus on capturing how each moment truly felt by crafting bespoke stories that authentically represent the essence of the adventurous, non-traditional, and wildly in love through luxury photography and cinematography.

Although Murphy Studio also offers photo booths for kids’ parties, corporate events, and weddings, along with headshots for entertainers and business professionals, my true calling is in connecting with couples about to enter the next chapter of one of life’s most incredible journeys.

From vow exchanges and intimate portraits, to first dances and celebrations, from sunrise to starry skies, it’s my privilege to work with my clients to weave together an elegant narrative that doesn’t just capture their wedding day in the New Jersey and New York City areas, but captures the timeless story of their love. I take a wholly unique approach to each couple, trusting and respecting them as my creative partner as we collaborate to immortalize one of the defining moments of their lives.

While this page is about me, your wedding day is about you, your partner, and your family. It’s my honor to create images and videos that capture the authentic and boundless love of your special day, providing you with unforgettable heirloom memories that will be cherished for countless generations to come.

I document the big bold moments in a couple’s life all across the northeast US.

WELCOME TO MURPHY STUDIOS. I'm ALAN AND

I’m that dad, yep, the one following around their child with a giant camera. Seriously, I’m recording whether my son is taking his first steps or just laughing at the silly faces my wife and I make at him over breakfast. We spend our weekends taking it easy on Long Beach Island. Life with the two of them is always something new, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Family

Travel has always been a part of my life. Growing up as a second-generation immigrant, my summers were spent visiting family back in South Africa and touring Europe as a member of my church’s choir. These trips gave me a certain cultural perspective that grounded me in life and gave me an understanding of the voices of those around me. That’s why I’m always up for a destination wedding or photoshoot.

Veteran advocacy is my absolute mission in life. I’m here to to give a voice to veterans in every capacity, and I have several avenues to help me achieve that goal: my job at Success Academy Charter Schools as part of the Military Veteran Initiative; volunteering with amazing organizations like Team Rubicon and The Mission Continues; photographing veterans for my Veteran Portrait Project; photographing the families of active duty military with homecoming portrait sessions, and interviewing veterans for the podcast Barack Stories.

There is so much to see in your own backyard. Places I haven’t even seen, but want to see and show my son someday. One day, I’ll plan a family road trip to see Colorado or Wyoming Anthony Bourdain style.

Pull off anywhere on the road and you’ll see just how picturesque and barren Iceland is. It’s worth a hike, especially if it ends with a hot spring.

My wife and I took a dingy plane up to to the northern reaches of Norway to see life outside of the city. There we saw eagles dive for fish in the fjords.

I crossed off all the tourist spots in Ireland as a kid. So when I came back again for a friend’s wedding, I made it a point to experience Ireland’s culture the right way - in a bar, with a guiness in hand, listening to stories from the locals.

I want to retire here someday. Specifically on the island of Kauai, where my wife and I found the most stunning and secluded oasis at the end of a hike.

We came to visit my wife’s family and tear up the swiss alps together. We did that and more including exploring a cavern and waterfall they, the locals, had never seen before.

On my 2nd deployment, I took a day trip to Israel. It was eye-opening to witness all the places Jesus had walked before me and to see all the worshippers in front of the Western Wall of Jerusalem.

I caught the travel bug during my first deployment to Bahrain. Where I would work hard during the day and explore the country in my downtime. I remember visiting bars with friends and mountain biking over desert dunes.

South Africa will always remind me of my family. Going back now, means exploring outside of Johannesburg and seeing the lush vineyards of Cape Town and taking my own family on safari.
